Change of Watch

 

On January 10th Flotilla 76 held their annual Change of Watch during dinner at the Beaverton Elks. During the ceremony. Ken Anderson, our outgoing FC, swore in Barbara Korsmo as FC and Neil James as VFC, administered the membership oath to new member Shane Duyck, and presented the Auxiliarist of the Year award to Tim Kelly for his work in growth and retention. The 2004 Flotilla staff was also sworn in.

Four Members -
150 Years of Service


Among our membership we are lucky to count four active members with more than 30 years of service to the Auxiliary.
 

Earl joined in 1952
Tim joined in 1963
Barbara joined in 1971
Ken joined in 1973
 

These four remarkable individuals exemplify the "Spirit of 76".

19DEC03 - Flotilla 76 presented a plaque to Lisa Westerbeck and Jerry Baumgartner of the Portland Water Pollution Control Lab expressing our appreciation for the use of their facility for our public education programs.

06DEC03 - Tim Kelly received the Division 7 - Gil Gatlin Award for Mentoring and Membership at the Division Change of Watch on Saturday. Congratulations Tim!
 

12NOV03 - Gary Nepple was appointed as a Marine Dealer Visitor at the November Flotilla meeting.

Public Education

 

20NOV03 - We are nearing the completion of our Fall Boating Skills and Seamanship class. This Thursday Tim Kelly presented the chapter on Weather and Earl Markham began his presentation on knots and marlinespike seamanship.
 

Don't miss our 13 week spring session beginning on February 2nd.

10NOV03 - Our Flotilla Commander, Ken Anderson, has been elected to serve as Division Captain in 2004. Congratulations Ken!


12NOV03 - Flotilla 76 elected Barbara Korsmo to serve as our Flotilla Commander and Neil James as Vice Flotilla Commander for 2004. Congratulations Barbara and Neil.
 

A big thank you to Ken, Barbara and Neil for their commitment to serve in these important roles.

 

Public Affairs


18-19OCT03 - On Saturday and Sunday, Tom Travers and Daren Lewis participated in the Northwest Osteopathic Medical Foundation's annual "Safety Safari" at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI). We spoke with over 500 children about the importance of life jackets and water safety. Over 40 safety organizations participated.


The Coast Guard had a SAFE boat on hand - a crowd pleaser as always!

Member Training


09AUG03 - On the afternoon of Saturday, August 9th, Crew Member Training took place at the home of Auxiliarist Gary Nepple. He graciously offered the use the heated swimming pool at his home for an in-water training workshop. Earl Markham and Tim Kelly were the instructors for the session. Trainees were given the opportunity to work on their sign-off swim and learn how to correctly don the different styles of PFD’s. Trainees were able to experience first hand, how the different types of PFD’s rate and perform while in the water.
